Week of Prayer and Fasting

Each year Hope Fellowship takes a week (usually the first full week after Labour Day) to be still, to clear our schedules, to put off meetings and plans and pray together.

We are called to step back from visible action to the interior work of silence, seeking God’s face and His will for our next step. In this week, we make ourselves available to God and His Word to us.  We fast from things that distract us and we make real the statement “Prayer is central to the life of the church”.  And, as we all know, where there is life, there is Hope.  In gathering together we feel the strength of numbers and the confidence that we are not alone in seeking God’s will.

As a church, we are embarking on a quest, which is the root word in the word Question. And indeed, we start with questions. What is prayer? What does it mean to start our ministry with prayer? What is God doing in our neighbourhood and how can we help? A week to be still, to clear schedules, to put off meetings and plans, is counter- intuitive in so many ways. We are called to prayer on the brink of living out our desire for “Bringing people into a living relationship with Jesus Christ.”   We are called to step back from visible action to the interior work of silence, seeking God's face and His will for our next step.

Before each week begins, some devotional materials are prepared to help us focus on each of the ministry Zones at Hope Fellowship.

During the week itself, the church is opened for group prayer each night, Monday to Friday, from 7:00 to 8:00 pm.  In gathering together, we feel the strength of numbers and the confidence that we are not alone in seeking God's will.
